Types of Nursing Licenses and Types of Nursing Degrees
If you are fascinated by the art and science of providing quality health care and feel compassion for individuals who suffer from health problems, a career as a nurse may be a great fit for you.
There are multiple academic pathways into the nursing profession, "which is both a good thing and something that does cause lots of confusion," says Stephen Ferrara, associate dean of clinical affairs and an associate professor of nursing with the Columbia University School of Nursing.

Why I don’t Recommend the Sprague Rappaport Stethoscopes.
Ok, so we maybe don't need to as far as to ban them altogether, they have their uses, but I refuse to recommend them to anyone. The dreaded Sprague Rappaport style stethoscopes are those funky looking stetho's draped around the necks of every nurse and doctor on Scrubs and many other medical shows.
One of the first things any beginning nurse asks is "what stethoscope?". some decide to commit to the large investment from the beginning with a Littmann or other high-end stethoscope, but for the rest of us that can't…
Cytokine Cascade
The Cytokine Cascade or cytokine storm is a relatively recently described autoimmune response in which the body's immune system gets caught in a positive feedback loop leading to a runaway and potentially fatal autoimmune response.
A cytokine cascade can be particularly troublesome treat as it is the normal response of a healthy immune system, and so treatment usually focusses on the active interference of the immune processes rather than treatment of the underlying infection.
Cytokine cascades have been implicated in…
The First Weeks of Nursing School
I’m into my fourth week of nursing school and so far I’m absolutely loving it. I find myself almost sad to be heading home at the end of the day, as well as constantly craving more knowledge.
For the first time in my study life, I actually find myself reading the text books religiously, even when it's not even required. I find myself occupying my spare time with… strangely enough… more studying. It’s like I need to keep learning as much as I can. While it seems unusual I’m sure I’m going to look back on this in a few…
Am I Supposed to Be here?
So it's the first day of the new semester and so far it's not going so well. First I managed to catch the wrong bus, but it's all good, I still managed to get to uni on time, a good 45 minutes before my first lecture is set to start.
So feeling excited and refreshed by the smelter break, I decided to rock up nice and early and secure a prime position in the lecture hall.
I grab some breakfast from the vending machine (a succulent mars bar), plow through it and double check the lecture hall on my timetable. Yup, I'm in…
How to Handle a Brain
Yesterday was certainly an interesting day. I only had one class, Bioscience, but it was an incredible experience nonetheless. I should warn any of you that are a little squeamish; you might want to skip over this one.
I started out on Tuesday night not feeling all too well and contemplating not attending the practical class the next day, but only due to a quiz at the end of the class worth a mere 3% (I know it's not much but every mark is a good mark, right?) I decided it would be best for me to attend. It turned out to…

The First Nursing Exam
I’m sure many of you know the feeling, you cram in any study you can into any spare second of the day, cramming as much as you can. You stay up late studying, getting as
little sleep every night as you dare to get away with. You rock up at Uni on the day feeling confident, tired, but confident nonetheless.
You get in there and you’re pumped! You totally got this. You’ve studied everything you could get your hands on. This is it… exam time, you psych yourself up. You get the exam paper, it's a little thicker than you…
First Steps As A Nurse
So this is it, I’m in! I officially accepted the offer and I begin studying in late February. I have to admit I was a little unsure if this is the right choice, or if I’ve just made a terrible mistake, and destroyed my own future in the Film Industry.
For now, we won’t know, but I have finished enrolling into my classes and looks like I’m at Uni every day of week, which doesn’t seem too bad until you factor in the 3 hour commute one way. Thursdays will be hard, I’m at uni for 12 hours straight, so that’s definitely going…
